Diplexer / Duplexer / Multiplexers
Multiplexors and Filter Banks are uniquely different in construction and electrical configuration.
Filter banks are a set of individual channels or filters with distinct Input & Output terminals for every filter in the bank. The channels are not linked electrically. Generally, a set of switches would control which combination of filters would be utilized at any given time.
Multiplexors are also filter banks, but all the filters in the bank share a common port on the input or output. For applications, a signal source is fed into the common port and the signal is separated by the parameters set in the individual filters. Multiplexors are used as a signal combiners or signal splitters, and in some applications and can also have the outputs controlled with a multi port switch.
Multiband filters are a type of filter bank, but all the filters in the bank share a common port on the input and output. A signal source is fed into the common port and the signals are filtered and then re-combined. These banks are useful for creating multiple rejection zones, or covering wide spans of spectrum. Dual-band filters are fairly common.
